Despite rise in Danbury-area business closures, state report uncovers positive signs By Dirk Perrefort Staff Writer Updated: 07/23/2009 12:57:41 AM EDT DANBURY -- Numbers don't always tell the whole story. A new report released by the state showed the first half of this year had the largest number of business closures on record. An analysis of the figures showed the number of businesses closing their doors also increased in the Danbury area over last year. What the numbers don't show is that when there is a downturn, sometimes there are also opportunities. When the construction business slowed earlier this year, John Harris decided to get back into the restaurant business. He had owned restaurants in London, New York and Westport. He opened The White Horse Country Pub and Restaurant in Marble Dale about four weeks ago. "We've been jammed to the gills," he said. "We were full last night and we were full Monday night. It's been very busy since we opened."
