John and Lisa Harris have owned the White Horse Country Pub since 2009 and have raised the bar for comfort food. They have consistently garnered awards both locally and nationally. Vogue called it the ideal place for dining. This years Experts & Readers Choice Awards named it one of the best restaurants statewide in seven categories including Best Pub, Best Outdoor Dining, and Best Burgers. Recently a large room was added to the side replete with a fireplace guarded by a stone lion from Paris, making it an attractive place to dine on a chilly winter night. On warmer days, guests can dine outside along the Aspetuck River on the refurbished patio.
Throughout the restaurant, owner Harris has sourced interesting antiques and artifacts such as a 1920's Indian Scout motorcycle, a 16th. century tavern table, a land grant from 1250, and a Rolling Stones signed Fender guitar. Have a meal at the crowded bar, in one of the booths along the side, or tucked away in one of the quieter rooms. The eclectic menu is impressive. Start out with the spinach-artichoke dip with corn chips, coconut shrimp, or amazing White Horse chicken crunch. Besides the classic burgers, which are hard to beat, sample the British Raj chicken salad, sirloin chili, or roasted salmon with almond pesto. End the meal with Banoffi pie or English toffee pecan pie. By: Joseph Montebello White Horse Country Pub, 258 New Milford Turnpike, New Preston 860 868 1496, whitehorsecountrypub.com
