The White Horse Country Pub a treat. Back country gentility, plus great burgers. Wendy Burcket worked for the Marbledale Pub for 26 years. "It was like a home away from home," she says of the tavern and family restaurant. She stayed on when it was sold and turned into The White Horse Country Pub. "The transformation has been incredible," she says.

A builder by trade, John Harris knew he'd found a diamond in the rough when he stopped at the Marbledale Pub last year for lunch with a business associate. A 10-year resident of nearby Lake Waramaug, Harris not only had lunch, he also had a look around the 35-year-old building that sits at the edge of the East Aspetuck River.

LCT Article July 2009
Last November, Washington resident John Harris stopped for a burger at the Marble Dale Pub. On the way back to his car after the meal, he happened upon a breathtaking scene-the Aspetuck River picturesquely flowing a few feet behind the restaurant, downstream from a terraced waterfall, though it was a bit overgrown.
Danbury News Times
When the construction business slowed earlier this year, John Harris decided to get back into the restaurant business. He had owned restaurants in London, New York and Westport.
